Nursing has been one of the most in demand professions for the past few years. From then on, various programs have been developed to enhance and improve the quality of the nursing profession, as well as the programs of study. Nowadays, accelerated nursing schools offer courses intended for those who wish to enter the field of nursing in a speed up pace. This is also to meet the increasing demand for health care workers.

Accelerated nursing is one of the most in-demand courses in a number of colleges and universities nowadays. Due to the great number of individuals who wants to enroll, schools usually set strict qualifying requirements. Even the curriculum was designed to be strictly followed to make sure that they produce nurses that are compliant to today’s standards and can handle problems in actual situations.

There are some accelerated nursing schools who only accept applicants with completed bachelor’s degree from some other field of study. With other programs, they require interested applicants to have credits in biology or science related courses. These would include microbiology, human growth and development, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, physics, chemistry and statistics. However, criteria may vary from school to school.

Accelerated nursing schools have programs that teach basic knowledge in nursing. Topics commonly include primary health care, anatomy, biology, physiology, and pharmacology. The key to these fast-track courses is that students are taught with the basics, at the same time, they are exposed to the working place where they can immediately apply the things which they have learned. In their respective hospitals and medical centers, they work under the supervision of professionals. Doing so lets them learn all the necessary learning they should get in a much lesser period of time.

Noting the short duration of time, trainings in accelerated nursing schools are expected to be more rigid. Try to imagine that in just a matter of 11 to 13 full-packed months, you get to finish a course which is usually three years long. This would entail substantial amount of working loads at hospitals and medical centers and longer hours spent in class for discussions. So it is important that you are physically and mentally ready. Despite of the large amount of time you will spend on internship, keep up to date with your lessons. You should learn how to balance and manage your time appropriately.

Accelerated nursing programs are very beneficial not only to hopeful nurses but to patients as well. Graduates from other programs can make use of this if they want to continue with nursing.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is not the only course available at accelerated nursing schools. They also have MSN or Master of Science in Nursing which commonly takes three years to be accomplished.
